On November 21, the JP Stevens Cafeteria Annex was transformed into a warm fall-themed atmosphere as students gathered to attend a Thanksgiving Buffet event hosted by the “Got Your Back” (GYB) club. All proceeds went into the club’s initiatives and efforts to raise awareness of allergies.
The feast took place after school from 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m., and students were welcomed as they filled the room with the company of their friends. With a fee of just $6, students were given an exciting opportunity to sit together at tables for a meal and express gratitude, turning the Cafeteria Annex into a Thanksgiving gathering. Various tables were lined with comforting seasonal treats like creamy mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and cornbread, accompanied by an assortment of desserts: pies, cookies, and cupcakes. Students were able to help themselves to the feast offered at their own leisure. To create an even cozier fall atmosphere, guests were also offered beverages such as apple cider and juice to stay refreshed while they sat and socialized with each other.
Although the buffet connected students and brought joy, its main purpose was to raise money for allergy awareness initiatives and support its cause. The club’s board, which organized the event, was moved by the turnout of students, which spoke of the dedication of the JPS community to a very worthy cause.
Senior Nakshatra Musti, a GYB board member, said, “I was so proud with the turnout of the event and how determined the members were to help make it successful and fun!”
The festive spirit and the gathering of students also allowed them to reflect on the deeper value of the event.
Tyler Lo, a senior who attended the event, said, “Bringing people together over a Thanksgiving meal reminded me that organization creates space for gratitude to flourish.”
Students were able to connect over a meal at the welcoming and festive event, making it a memorable afternoon while raising money for an important cause. The JPS students had the opportunity to meet with their peers, relax, and show appreciation for each other before the upcoming festive season. Due to the event being a hit and enjoyable, members are looking forward to holding more allergy awareness events in the future.
