As spring arrives, the JP Stevens Boys Volleyball team sets into a fresh season. One key member of the team is senior Randhir Vangoor, who is the team’s starting outside hitter. This year, Randhir and the Hawks are set on becoming the county champions.
After watching his dad and his friends play one day, he hopped in and soon became hooked on the sport. He started playing at the age of 14 and joined the Hawks freshmen team. Around this time, Randhir also joined his first club team, Accuracy, where he learned the fundamentals of the sport. Then, he moved to Core Volleyball Club, where he began playing at a more competitive level and learned more advanced skills.
After spending four years with the Hawks, his favorite moments include the chaotic bus rides each day and the team hangouts after big games. These fun and relaxed moments that he spent hanging out with his teammates are ones that he will cherish long after he graduates. When talking to the team, they had nothing but positivity to share. Take for instance, “Randhir is a really great volleyball player and person,” as described by fellow volleyball player Ling Li. “He is always very focused on improving himself both on and off the court, and is an incredibly reliable friend.”
Outside of volleyball, Randhir enjoys hanging out with friends, playing video games, spikeball, and pickleball. A motto he lives by is “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” This quote reflects his ambitious and disciplined mindset, as he believes that any goal is worth pursuing, as long as you wholeheartedly commit yourself to it.
“Randhir is a great kid who has been in our program all four years. It has been so rewarding to watch him grow as a player and person during his tenure here,” Coach Weber reflects. “This season, he has stepped up and flourished as one of our Varsity outside hitters, and we couldn’t be happier for him to see his hard work pay off.”
Randhir has certainly left a lasting impact on the Hawks Volleyball team over the course of his years at JP Stevens and will be missed by both teammates and coaches. After graduating, he aspires to become a doctor and will be studying Biomedical Engineering at Rutgers University. With his friendly personality and ambitious and dedicated mindset, Randhir certainly has a bright future ahead of him as he transitions into the next chapter of his life.
