As the Hawks charged into the 2025 volleyball season, captain Kyle Ng stepped into a crucial role in leading his team to victory. Getting into volleyball through a popular show called Haikyuu, senior Kyle Ng has shown dedication and passion to the sport of volleyball. He was influenced by his friends and his father, and said, “Playing with my friends sparked my interest further as I felt the same feeling I did as I watched the show. My father pushed me a lot to become a better player and especially be fit for the sport. Both made me who I am today, so I credit that to them.”
No matter the Hawks’ score, Kyle consistently helps to steer the team through adversity with confidence. Whether it’s from the middle blocker or outside hitter, Kyle has built an impressive track record in performance, growth, and leadership. Kyle has played for the Hawks since his junior year, steadily earning more court time and responsibilities. Kyle Ng recorded 24 blocks in one season and has over 45 kill spikes. Along with that, he has 28 digs and 7 total assists. He also has 15 aces, showing his offensive potential and his ability to be not only a middle, but an all-rounder. Playing a career total of 48 sets, Kyle has clearly shown his dedication to both the sport and his team.
His teammates said, “Kyle pushes himself and his teammates to grow in both skill and mindset.” He leads his team by example, putting in ample effort in practice and matches. Known for keeping his spirits high, he brings ecstatic energy to the team on and off the court. Kyle expressed his dedication and love for his team by saying, “Build your fundamentals, and everything else will fall into place,” showing that the basics are what build you- not ego and pride.
Beyond his performance, Kyle is also a bridge between the coaching staff and his teammates, helping improve communication and foster unity. He is a strong representation of resilience, commitment, and determination both on and off the court. Kyle said that his best advice for freshmen is that “Going to tournaments and playing with people of similar skill level will teach you a lot. I also recommend practicing as much as you can, even playing with friends who don’t play volleyball regularly is good to help you become a better player. Getting repetitions and mastering skills will always lead you to success for this sport and following that I can promise you will succeed.”
Kyle is more than just a senior on the roster: he is a true captain and an even better player. He is helping build a legacy for JP Stevens Volleyball, demonstrating the core value of being a great athlete both on and off the court.
