This spring, all eyes are on the John P. Stevens High School baseball team, where the Hawks are making their mark and setting new career highs. Following a competitive 2025 season, the boys have proved to be nothing less than skilled and talented. From pitching several innings to hitting record-breaking home runs, the team has contributed their hard work and effort to build their skills and sharpen their fundamentals. Looking forward to a competitive 2026 season, the Hawks are focused on prevailing and have already started strong.
So far, the team has had an amazing season, clutching key wins and having hard practices. With a current 13-6 record, the Hawks have had noteworthy victories with a win over Carteret, 10-0, along with New Brunswick, 23-4. Throughout the season, the Hawks have showcased their strength on both sides of the field to ultimately pull out the important victories.
Beyond the home runs and strikeouts, much of the team’s success comes from its chemistry and ability to work with each other, contributing to a cooperative team with great camaraderie. Many players have stepped up in their roles and have made remarkable achievements. This includes Soham Prajapati, one of the captains of the varsity team, who just accomplished a career high of 200 strikeouts, an exceptional record contributing to the success of the Hawks. Soham says he “originally got into the sport” because his “dad signed” him up, and he “fell in love with the game ever since.”
Nolan Overmyer, Lansen Mui, and Jaden Kasim are also the team captains alongside Soham, and they have a lot to say about the team. The team “brought them so much joy and memories,” reflecting on the strong connection between all of the teammates and the strong teamwork they exhibit. The teammates, led by these hardworking captains, take a lot away from this time. They take immense pride in this sport, grateful for the opportunity to play alongside such a supportive and close-knit team.
Head Coach Jackow has emphasized the importance of staying focused during the game and reflects on his time coaching the varsity baseball team. Without his coaching this year, the Hawks wouldn’t have been tied for first in the division, and wouldn’t have notable wins over hard teams. Assistant varsity Coach Lapczynski also discusses his career; as a key baseball athlete at Kean University, playing D3, Lapczynski’s words and advice are nothing less than vital. Overall, both of these coaches have led the Hawks to tremendous success, and they’ve proved that they have what it takes to lead a team to victory.
As the season continues, the Hawks are aiming to build upon their dominating record and make a strong postseason run. With outstanding performances and strong team chemistry, the John P Stevens baseball team has already proved itself to be one of the sports you turn an eye to this spring.
