Just like that, the winter season for the JPS swim team comes to an end. The JPS girls’ swim team seized unforgettable victories, with old records replaced by new ones and personal bests achieved along the way. The team completed an exceptional season with their 5–3 overall record and 4–1 record in GMCs, showing how much the team’s improvement from the start of the season to the finish. The team this year was led by captains Jasmine Singh and Sahasra Botcha, and coached by Jillieanna Peguero and Ana Mendez, who constantly pushed the swimmers to perform their best in and out of the water. The seniors will truly be missed, but their memories, leadership, and records will forever be remembered by the program.
The JPS girls swim team ended the season with victories against five schools: Sayreville, South Brunswick, South Plainfield, Old Bridge, and a special Senior Night win against St. Thomas Aquinas, where they had their Senior Night. The girls’ wins included many with large margins, proving their strength across events. Junior Angela Zhou broke last year’s record and set a new record for the 100 free with a 54.33, which was one of the biggest highlights of the season. The team also placed 4th in the County Championship meet, with Angela Zhou, Sahasra Botcha, Trisha Ojha, and Jamie Ramac medaling 3rd for JP in their 200 medley relay. Angela Zhou finished 1st in the 200 Freestyle and 2nd in the 500 Freestyle. Lastly, Trisha Ojha placed 6th in the 50 Freestyle and 6th in the 100 Breaststroke. By breaking records and high placements, it’s safe to say that the girls did a tremendous job in the 2025–2026 swim season and continue to represent JP at a very competitive level.
The end of the season is always hard for all teams, and this year, eight seniors from the JPS swim team will be graduating after leaving their mark through their splashing victories with the team. Senior captain Jasmine Singh said, “What I loved most about this season was how close our team became. Swim can seem like an individual sport, but my time on the swim team really showed me how much we rely on each other for support and motivation. What I’ll miss most about JPS swim is the energy we bring to meets. Cheering for my teammates and hyping up our relays behind the blocks is a memory I will never forget!” when she was asked what she loved and will miss most about her seasons with JP. When asked about how the swimmers performed this season, Coach Ana Mendez proudly said, “Overall, it was a successful season. They showed growth, both individually and as a team. Many swimmers achieved personal bests and showed great progress.” The bond between teammates, the late-night practices, and the excitement at meets are all things that made this season so memorable for everyone involved.
The 2025–2026 season was a great season for the JPS Swim team with victories, new records, and improved times across the board. More importantly, it was a season full of growth, teamwork, and moments that swimmers will carry with them for years. Even though the season has ended, the impact of this group of swimmers will continue into next year with returning athletes ready to step up into bigger roles. Overall, this season showed how much dedication and heart the JPS swim program truly has, and it will definitely be one to remember for a long time.
