Spring can mean many things — flowers, warmer weather, and new beginnings. But even though the sunlight gets brighter, there’s still a darker part that comes along with spring for JP students: AP season and more tests. In fact, this marking period is arguably the hardest to get through, but there’s still plenty of ways to stay out of a spring slump and to make the best of the season.
For one, a change of scenery is an easy but effective way to have fun while studying. In fact, many studies have shown that changing locations is a good way to enhance study sessions by boosting focus and creativity. Where you’re most productive can depend on you: if you’re someone who always has their nose in a book, a good study place is a bookstore like Barnes and Noble. But if you’re someone who likes a more lively atmosphere, a café like Starbucks might be a good choice- that way you can also try out all the spring seasonal drinks while studying! Either way, changing things up can definitely make any study session more fun.
Another activity to spice this season up would be applying to different summer programs. While it sounds boring, it’s actually a great way to prepare for summer break and to experience different courses that interest you. Whether it’s volunteering for the community, applying to pre-college summer programs, or even trying out a part time job, this is definitely a good idea to consider for someone who likes to be productive.
Last but not least, a little academic spring cleaning can also be a good idea. This is the perfect time to organize binders (bonus points if the folders are spring colors!), clean up your email, and update all digital calendars. Staying organized not only makes things easier, but it can also be a calming activity that can help you reset for the season.
All in all, even if spring can be a stressful time for students, there’s still plenty of ways to stay out of a “spring slump” and into a spring fever — whether it starts with a change of scenery, planning for summer, or with some organizing.
