Have you ever woken up on a cold January morning, only to want to curl back up into your bed with a warm blanket? January could feel like that most of the time for many reasons. The weather is freezing and dreary, there are no big breaks to look forward to, and the joyful holiday season has just ended. Everyone loves making Christmas or holiday-themed bucket lists full of fun activities such as gingerbread house decorating, movie binging, and gift shopping. However, as soon as January comes, it’s all over. Why?
Why can’t we keep the holiday fun going? People could create a winter bucket list packed with activities they could do with their friends and family in the cold. Rather than being depressed all winter, they could maintain joy by crossing off some of these exciting bucket list items.
First off, we have ice skating. Even if you have no idea how to ice skate or haven’t done it in years, ice skating can be fun with friends and doesn’t require you to have professional figure skater level skill. I know that when I go ice skating, I’m holding onto the wall practically the entire time so that I don’t fall flat on my face. It already happened once and I don’t want it happening again. Nonetheless, it’s an enjoyable experience if you go with your favorite people on a nice winter day. Just don’t forget to bundle up with a warm puffer coat and mittens so you don’t catch a cold!
Our second item on the bucket list is sledding. This is perfect for a snow day, but it can be a hard activity to complete, as we don’t often have enough snow for it to be done. If we do, you should take advantage of the day, grab some friends, and have a good time (and try not to knock into a tree while sliding down a hill.) Seriously. One time, when we were much younger, my mom took my sister and I sledding and my sister’s friend knocked straight into a tree and snapped our sled in half. Don’t let this be you.
Next up, let’s turn to cozy indoor activities for this bucket list. If you don’t want to go outside and endure the cold air, you could make snow globes in the comfort of your own home and watch the fake snow instead. All you need is a glass jar with a lid, preferably a circular one for the globe shape, little plastic figurines, hot glue, and some fake snow or glitter. You could pick all this up at your local craft store. It could be a fun craft to do when you’re bored and it could even be done while watching a movie or listening to music. Just don’t accidentally spill glitter all over your carpet!
To wrap this bucket list up, let’s add one of my all-time favorite hobbies: reading. Yes, it may not be for everyone and many people may find it boring, but just hear me out. Imagine being in your living room tucked under a fuzzy blanket on a cold, dark winter night, a fire burning in the fireplace to the right of you. You reach out to the coffee table in front of you to pick something up. What is it, you ask? A book. A fun, intriguing, wintery-themed book that will play out in your head like a movie. Now does the hobby sound more appealing? Hopefully, that’s a yes.
Overall, I hope you found some enjoyable activity from this list that you could try out and have fun with this winter. Whether you’re an outdoor or indoor kind of person, there’s something for everyone included. Hopefully, this warm winter bucket list can brighten your January!
