There’s only one thing better than getting a good grade on an APUSH assessment: a snow day on the day of your quiz when you know you didn’t study enough for it. Just imagine waking up thinking about the Great Depression and how you’re going to finish your math homework on time and then looking out the window to see a blanket of white covering the driveway. Pure joy: that’s when you know you have a snow day. That’s also when all the thoughts of algebra and the periodic table are washed away with the excitement of seeing the snow outside. However, once all of the energy dies down, an even more familiar feeling kicks in: boredom. And maybe even a bit of confusion. What exactly can you do stuck inside on a snow day?
For someone who is devastated to miss their History class, the perfect snow day activity would be to read a good winter themed book (even better if they’re old classics to give you that history vibe). Don’t know what to read? Some good ideas would be The Hunger Games to bring you back to District 12 for Katniss’s chilly survival story or even The Inheritance Games to match the mysterious atmosphere. If you’re more of a classic reader, some good books would be Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery or Little Women by Louisa May Alcott to get you into the winter wonderland mood.
Not a big reader? No problem. If your favorite subject in school is science, then something you would enjoy would be watching Science themed documentaries or videos (bonus points if they’re winter themed!) from the comfort of your couch. Some good options would be anything from National Geographic, Ted-Ed, or BBC Earth, which offer a good variety of topics. A few specific ones would be “A Winter Wildlife Wonderland” from BBC Earth or “A National Park’s Frigid Winter” from National Geographic. Watching something interesting would definitely be a fun activity during your day off!
If you’re someone who enjoys writing essays in English, maybe documentaries and classic books seem a bit boring. If so, maybe writing your own stories may be more fun for you. There are plenty of good videos online to help, and you can even take an online course to learn more about the grand world of literature. Writing winter themed short stories is sure to put you in the wintertime mood!
Last but not least, a great activity for everyone would be to make the best of the snow by doing snow-themed activities (as long as it’s safe to go outside!). Some of these activities can be snow boarding, skiing, sledding, or even having a friendly snowball fight with your friends.
Snow days are already fun enough, but with this list, everyone is sure to have their perfect activity to keep them busy and entertained while they are at home!
