In J.P. Stevens swimming history, Keefer has earned his place among the most commendable leaders. During his 3 years on the team, his unwavering morale and dedication molded him into a person who brought inspiration to his teammates.

Keefer’s swimming career sprouted from his biggest supporter, his mother, who introduced the sport to him. She had always encouraged him to try different things, and because he felt drawn to the water, Keefer made the decision to pursue swimming. As he continued physically and mentally pushing himself in the sport, it transformed from a leisure activity to a serious commitment. He learned to love the amount of discipline and focus that swimming demanded from him.

The early moments of his swimming journey set the foundation for an irreplaceable teammate. He was recognized for his contributions to the team by being awarded the Most Improved Swimmer in 2024. In his senior year, he was named captain.

Besides the exhilarating competition and the wins, Keefer will fondly remember the camaraderie he built with his teammates. Moments that developed this include the team dinners, which brought him and his teammates closer together. This familiarity was instrumental in boosting performance in the pool, as team spirit is a large component of motivation.

Keefer urges younger swimmers to set out on a path of discovery, as they could, too, become attached to an activity that shapes who they are. To express this, he quoted Batman’s words, “It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.”
