The Hawks wrestling team’s impressive start to the season is supported by exceptional leadership. A component of this leadership is captain Arjun Jyothish, who is one of the dedicated and hard-working wrestlers on the team. After being inspired to start wrestling because of his wrestling friends, he stepped on the wrestling mat for the first time in his sophomore year. This year, Arjun is hoping to lead the team to another successful season.
Despite his relentless training and staunch mindset, Arjun faced several setbacks throughout his high school career. In his junior year, he broke his leg, and in his senior year, he broke his ankle. However, Arjun still powered through and continued training to the best of his ability in the weightroom. Through these small steps towards improvement each day, he has been able to make big strides in life and wrestling, regardless of his situation. His favorite quote is “Work like you’ve never won, and play like you’ve never lost,” which truly encapsulates his incredible work ethic.
When reminiscing about his favorite memories on the team, he cannot forget the fun and chaotic team meals that they would have after a big tournament or win. For Arjun, these moments truly solidified the close-knit and familial atmosphere that came with being a part of the team. Even after he graduates, he will certainly cherish the memories of having fun and bonding with his teammates.
Outside of wrestling, Arjun is an integral part of his community. He volunteers at the JP Stevens library and the Metuchen YMCA. He is also an instructor at his Taekwondo dojo, and started learning when he was six. As a result, Arjun’s compassionate and altruistic nature is undeniable, with him making a meaningful impact wherever he goes.
When Arjun is off the wrestling mats, he enjoys watching movies and shows with his parents and playing basketball with friends. He also enjoys spending his free time reading books, drawing, and most importantly, with his family. After graduating from high school, Arjun wants to study computer science and become successful in order to support his parents.
Arjun is not only a fierce wrestler, but is an incredibly outgoing and selfless person who enjoys uplifting those around him. His actions during his time as a part of the Hawks will certainly leave behind a legacy that will inspire future wrestlers and students alike. With his incredible leadership skills, compassionate character, and disciplined mindset, Arjun has a bright future ahead of him as he heads into the next chapter of his life.
