With the fall sports season in full swing, the boys cross country team is hard at work, doing everything in their power to get better both as a team and individually. The Hawks aim to improve from their times from last year and come out of the Greater Middlesex Conference on top.
Over the summer, the Hawks got an early start to the season by practicing all summer, consistently logging mile after mile each practice. The team values hard work and dedication, knowing that the only way to improve is to put in the time and effort.
Despite the Hawks’ competitive and relentless nature, the cross country team is more than a group of runners, but rather a close, tight-knit family. Within the team, there is a very prominent sense of community, which has been built up by the countless runs and competitions.
During practice, members of the team always run in groups as they know it is the best way to get faster both individually and as a team. Likewise, at meets, runners can always be seen cheering for their teammates during their races, showing the unbreakable sense of camaraderie that the Hawks have.
Currently, the Hawks have already hit the ground running, having started off their season at Oak Ridge Park, and are only getting better and better from there. Most notably, the Hawks recently ran in the Magee Memorial Class meet. During the meet, the Hawks showed tremendous potential, with their junior class even getting 1st place out of 29 teams.
“You’re only limited to what your mind thinks your body can do,” said senior captain Eshaan Bhandar. Eshaan urges each and every one of his teammates to never doubt their own capabilities. He believes that having the right mindset is key to becoming successful not only in cross country, but in life as a whole.
With more and more personal bests being made each race, the Hawks have high hopes for this year’s season. Through their endless grit and determination, along with the work the team is putting in day in and day out, the Hawks will certainly meet and exceed all expectations this year.
