The 2025 Hawks Football team has developed tremendously and fought valiantly in the face of injury and tough competition. Despite the challenges which they’ve faced, head coach David Kunyz’s inaugural season at the helm has been successful overall.
Accompanied by captains Joshua Collins and Estaban Reyes, Coach Kunyz has successfully carried the momentum he helped create as a defensive coordinator under previous head coach Jason Goerge, who helped bring the Hawks their first wins since 2019. Under his watch, several players have had breakout seasons, including Freshman Hudson Zuniga, who finished second on the team with 48 total tackles, trailing behind only Captain Joshua Collins, who led the team at 67.
On the offensive side of the ball, Senior Sharmar Laroche-Burch leads the team with 4 passing touchdowns on 92 completions. His favorite target, Sophomore Zamarr Raiford, caught all 4 touchdowns, and an additional 3 along with 2 more in on kickoffs across 6 returns. The pass-heavy Hawks offense managed only one rushing touchdown this season, having been run into the end zone by Captain Joshua Collins in the season opener against Lakewood. Junior Quarterback Muawiyah Khawaya has established himself as Burch’s successor under center for 2026 with 5 touchdowns and 46 completions, primed to lead the team in their next campaign.
The Hawks make frequent adjustments in the second half, based on observations by the coaching staff. Coming back from the locker room, the Hawks consistently play smoother, harder, and faster than their opponents and pressure the competition, no matter the score or time left on the clock. The team is optimistic in their future prospects, hoping to continue their development.
Junior Mateo Kumar has a positive outlook for the program, believing that the team “can win next year if we keep at it in the weight room and work hard each day”. Despite adversity, the morale remains high throughout the program heading into the offseason, with countless hours in the weight room A strong group of underclassmen and a returning captain will build the program throughout the offseason and bring success on the field in 2026 and beyond.
