Senior night is meant to honor the graduating athletes on a team. These athletes have spent years of their lives playing and working hard. On October 11, 2025, the JP Stevens girls’ volleyball team celebrated their beloved seniors in a heated match against their opponent, Rahway High School. The team recognized seven seniors this year: Asmi More, Floria Nehe, Melanie Cosgrove, Shruthi Devarakonda, senior manager Riddhi Chopra, and captains Gladys Diaz de la Rosa and Tina Sehrawat. These seniors have dedicated their time and deserve to be appreciated for their contributions, which have left a lasting impact on the program.
Despite losing the first set, the Hawks fought hard to secure the win, making the night memorable for their seniors. That night, the Hawks celebrated not only their seniors but also two important milestones: Tina Sehrawat reached 800 assists, and Melanie Cosgrove achieved a kill, which is when you hit the ball and score a point. The Hawks ultimately won 2-1, showcasing the perseverance they’ve demonstrated throughout the entire season under the leadership of their senior captains.
The seniors enjoyed seeing the crowd support them. Tina, the senior captain and setter, said, “To see the crowd cheering for us was something I will never forget.”
The Hawks were proud to show off a large crowd that night, with the bleachers jam-packed with friends and family. The energy from the bleachers never faded, even when points were hard to score. This gave the Hawks a real homecourt advantage as well as a special senior night.
Asmi More, a senior outside hitter, added, “I think the thing I’ll miss most is the friendships that I made along the way.”
Varsity Head Coach Weber said, “This group of seniors is very special to all of us. They have all worked tirelessly to make the program a success.” He added, “I wish these seniors the very best in whatever they choose to pursue in the future.”
To these seniors, volleyball wasn’t just a sport; it was a key aspect of their high school careers. All the time and energy they put into this sport finally got them the recognition they deserved. The ending of the night was bittersweet, and thanks to everyone who was involved, it was truly a night to remember.
