Joining the JPS Community: Mr. Persuad
December 1, 2022
Mr. Roe Persaud, a Special Education teacher, recently began his career at JP Stevens. He is excited about pursuing not only a new job but also new experiences and friendships with students and fellow faculty moving forward.
Mr. Persaud appreciates the school for its fun atmosphere and diverse student community. Coming from North Plainfield, where his main role was as a Special Education advisor, he has decided to continue in his passion for education here at JP. When outside of the classroom, he enjoys studying science and participating in both indoor and outdoor rock climbing. He feels that rock climbing allows him to experience life in a different way as he enjoys the sense of adventure. Mr. Persaud believes that it is important to always try new things and give something that was perhaps not liked the first time a second chance.
Mr. Persaud chose to teach Special Education to disprove the stereotypes that people have about the field. There may be some people who believe that students in Special Education programs are incapable of the endeavors they pursue in life. The reality, he says, is that every student has the potential to succeed in incredible ways. The stereotype about those involved with Special Education is unfortunate because a student’s true potential could be squandered in the process, but Mr. Persaud notes that he would do anything in his power to prevent this from happening as everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed no matter how success is defined.
When asked about advice for students to consider, Mr. Persaud would like to remind students that there is more than one path to achieving a solution. It is good to have plans for the future, but rigid ideas can sometimes result in not opening up to the surrounding world and the experiences it offers. He claims that life is about the experience, good or bad, hard or easy; experiences make people who they are, and shying away from new experiences will lead to missed opportunities.
