On Thursday, February 20, the annual ETEA Charity Volleyball Tournament was hosted at J.P. Stevens High School. These games are played to benefit Camp Kiddie Keep Well, Buddy Ball, and the ETEA Scholarship Fund.
The tournament featured educators from Edison Township competing in friendly matches with free entry for attendees and donations encouraged. In this event, teams of six to ten members from every school in Edison played in four pools that eventually led into the playoffs, and then the final game. Match-ups like J.P. Stevens versus Edison High School and John Adams Middle School versus Woodrow Wilson Middle School exhilarated the crowd. Many students from across the district showed up with their families to support their favorite teachers.
Leading to the main event, schools like James Monroe Elementary hosted fundraising activities such as a 5th Grade versus Teachers Volleyball Showdown to once again support the ETEA Game. Refreshments were also sold as a method to raise more money. The organization was joined by two of J.P. Stevens students who helped DJ and control the mic system. Shoutout to the girls volleyball team, who assisted in reffing and keeping score during the games.
After multiple intense games, some hard wins, and sour losses, the last game of the night quickly approached. It was a clash between John Adams Middle School and J.P. Stevens High School. There were many awesome plays, killer serves, and very strong hits, with both teams showing consistency and determination to take the cup home. In the end, J.P. Stevens won the match with an ace serve, continuing to carry the title of reigning champions of the ETEA Charity Volleyball Tournament.
