The JP Stevens gym was buzzing on Friday, March 7 as students poured in for the eagerly-awaited Student Council Volleyball Tournament. This wasn’t merely a game, but a showcase of the students’ skill level, imagination, and school pride. With fast-moving games and the lively costume contest, the event was a day to remember.
The tournament started with round-robin and single-elimination rounds. All matches were played to 15 except for the nail-biting final game, which was played to 21 and had everyone at the edge of their seats.
The final was a clash between Team Taco Bell and reigning victors Team BRC. After a game of back-and-forth action, Team Tacobell emerged victorious over BRC in a contest that had spectators excited from start to finish. It was a rollercoaster game full of twists and turns as both teams put everything on the line to create a perfect final for the audience.
Team BRC’s junior player Ling Li reflected on the tournament with positivity: “Although we weren’t able to win, I had a blast playing at this tournament! Taco Bell was a really tough team. The student council did a great job organizing this tournament, and I’m looking forward to playing again next year.”
The costume contest added another level of enjoyment to the tournament. The teams did not disappoint in coming up with creative costumes, with Team Ryan Purakal emerging victorious thanks to the great support and cheers from the crowd. The contest added more excitement to the day with both students being motivated with something to be creative in.
Student Council Advisor Ms. Babbin shared her thoughts on the success of the tournament: “The Student Council Volleyball Tournament brings together students from all grades for a fun afternoon of non-stop volleyball action. This year’s competition was incredibly exciting and it was wonderful to see so many students both playing and cheering for their friends. The student council officers and executive board spent countless hours preparing for the event and it was a smashing success.”
The tournament was the result of months of planning and tireless effort on behalf of the student council. The combination of school pride and excitement made this volleyball tournament a year’s highlight.
