JP Studios hosted its second annual Student vs Faculty trivia night on February 28. The event featured a Jeopardy game where students competed against teachers to test their knowledge. With various categories, some of which were slogans, pop culture, and movies,
students and staff were brought together and encouraged to participate. The goal of this event was to raise funds for the club to buy new equipment and for students and teachers alike to have fun and relax.
As soon as the bell rang to dismiss students, a line of people stood outside the cafeteria to register their three-member teams and buy tickets for the event. There were multiple rounds of trivia, with the difficulty increased based on the amount of points they chose. While the host read the questions aloud and managed the time, each team used their Macbook to play and had an online buzzer to press on if they knew the right answer. Right off the start, one team of teachers dominated the first-place rank, making it challenging for other teams to make a comeback. Although students felt excited and eager to play and win a prize, they also felt slightly nervous as the teachers were in the lead.
During the game, there was a break in the middle for students and teachers to get up and stretch as well as get food and drinks to fuel their energy. Throughout the event, an ample amount of snacks were available to the participants as they played. There were a variety of chips, along with cookies and brownies.
As the game progressed, students aimed to get ahead of the leading teachers’ team. Near the end of the game, a final question was asked where teams could wager as many points as they wanted to beat the leading team. Surprisingly, the leading team got the final question wrong. Nonetheless, they won the title because of their strong performance.
Senior Jiya Patel, one of the co-presidents, exclaimed, “We were surprised by the turnout of this event! It was fun to see teachers competing against students!”
The winners were from a teacher team called Team Broccoli which included Ms. Waring, Mr. Primavera, and Mr. Romano. As a prize, each member of the winning team was able to choose a gift card from various restaurants and stores.
Mr. Romano, highlighted the impact of the event, explaining, “Students get to see teachers as individuals with interests and passions beyond their subject matter and teachers gain a deeper understanding of their students’ personalities.”
Overall, the trivia night was a success, with both students and teachers cheering on the winners and celebrating. This thrilling event allowed students and staff to participate in a friendly community and the opportunity to unwind and enjoy. With the students and teachers expressing their enjoyment, JP Studios hopes to make trivia night an ongoing annual tradition.
