On February 7, the FCCLA chapter of JP Stevens held its Cookie Decorating Night. FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is an organization that promotes family consumer sciences, leadership development, and community service. Cookie Decorating Night is the chapter’s largest fundraising event of the year, generating popularity amongst members and non-members alike.
The event started off at 6 PM in the cafeteria, with excited students pouring in, ready to decorate cookies and make memories with their friends. Honoring the theme of Valentine’s Day, which was just around the corner, the cafeteria was decorated with hearts and red, pink, and white. Students coming in paid their admission fee, receiving a heart-shaped stamp to buy their box of cookies, which were also-heart shaped.
“Serving as the FCCLA VP of Fundraising has been an amazing learning experience, allowing me to impact events such as the Cookie Decorating,” remarked Vice President of Fundraising Jenna Trotman. “The Cookie Decorating was very fun because I collaborated with the other officers to create a great event and watch so many people have fun together!”
Upon purchasing their cookie boxes, the students seated themselves around the cafeteria to begin decorating. There were piping bags with different colored frosting at every table, as well as an assortment of toppings and decorations at the front of the cafeteria. The frosting came in different pastel colors, and the toppings came in festive shapes such as hearts and sprinkles. With an array of different materials, the students expressed their creativity in making colorful and intricate designs on their cookies.
The event continued until 8 PM. Students continued enjoying decorating the cookies under a festive, Valentine’s-Day themed atmosphere. Romantic songs such as “Lovefool” by the Cardigans set the mood and the sight of pastel-frosted cookies lit up the whole room. Students posed together for pictures taken by other student photographers.
“I had a lot of fun decorating the cookies with my friends and promoting the event to old and new members,” stated VP of Communications Keya Patel. “I was happy to be part of the team where I got to promote all that our organization does.”
Overall, the event was a huge success for the FCCLA Chapter, promoting the organization to a broader audience. Students had the chance to watch FCCLA’s community engagement and fundraising opportunity in person, while enjoying their time together.
