As a talented swimmer, Chinmay Prabhu is well known amongst his teammates and coaches for his always positive and upbeat attitude no matter the situation. Last season, the Hawks placed third in the Greater Middlesex County Championship. His teammates believe that he will become captain this year and he hopes to help push the team to a gold at the championship by growing and learning collectively as a family.
Chimnay started swimming competitively the summer of 8th grade. The first team that he joined was Metuchen-Edison YMCA, and despite his later start on the sport compared to many other swimmers, he was quick to get a solid grasp on each stroke’s techniques. Additionally, thanks to an immense amount of practice, hard work, and dedication, he has managed to become one of the fastest and most impactful swimmers on the team.
After spending two and a half years at MEY, he later joined the Westfield Area YMCA Devilfish swim team last spring, which he believes to have helped him tremendously through high level coaching and practice. After spending much time and effort, Chimnay is undeniably now one of the best breastrokers on the team, with a 50 yard breaststroke time of 31.36 and 100 yard breaststroke time of 1:08.78.
With the winter season approaching fast, Chimnay has been training diligently with his fellow Hawks, and has even adapted a motto being “just keep swimming.” Along with this, he also has been committing more and more to the weightroom, and is focused on improving bit by bit each day.
He has said that what he will miss most about the team are the good times at the chaotic practices and the meets, the fun relays, and most importantly, the incredible people. Outside of the pool deck, Chimnay enjoys many different hobbies, such as eating chipotle, hanging out with friends, reading, biking, and much more. He spends the bulk of his time practicing the guitar, working out, and last but not certainly not least, sleeping.
Chimnay’s fun, uplifting spirit and helpfulness truly make him a crucial pillar of support within the team, and by helping out everyone and anyone that needs it, he makes himself one of the most valuable members on the team.
As Chimnay and the Hawks dive into the new season, Chimnay’s helpful leadership qualities will be sure to drive the team to be the best they can be. He will most certainly be remembered for his incredible contributions to the team, and the support that he consistently provided. Chimnay is an extremely hard worker, and along with his wonderful leadership traits, he will be sure to find his way to success later on in life.
