On January 10, the Hawkeye held its annual Movie Night in the J.P. Stevens cafeteria. The Hawkeye Business Department meticulously orchestrated the event and diligently worked on the logistics of food catering, detection setup, etc behind the scenes to ensure the event ran smoothly. The team contacted dozens of local businesses and restaurants in the area to secure food donations for the event. This event could have not been possible without the business department’s dedication and hard work. Ultimately, the event was a success and was enjoyed by everyone involved.
When the clock struck at 5 p.m., students filled the cafeteria choosing the best seat to get a good view of the movie. This year, the movie that was selected was an old winter classic: Home Alone directed by Chris Columbus and produced by John Hughes. Starring Macaulay Culkin, this movie was produced in 1990 and has since become a holiday favorite. The story centers around a young boy named Kevin McCallister, who is accidentally left at home when his family goes on vacation. As he enjoys independence, he has to outsmart two burglars, Harry and Marv, through a series of comedic yet orchestrated pranks. While the premise may sound unsettling, the movie is a holiday classic and is filled with tons of humor.
During the event, the Hawkeye Business associates played a pivotal role in helping with delivering the food donations, setting up the food table, and setting up the ticket booth. Associates volunteered throughout the event to serve food to attendees and to make sure the event went as smoothly as possible.
“Preparing for Movie Night was a tremendous task, and it wouldn’t have been possible to put together without the help of our team of Business Associates, our advisors, and my fellow Business Board members. From calling restaurants to ask for catering weeks in advance, donating items and snacks, and volunteering for shifts on the day of the event, our team worked very hard to ensure the success of our annual Hawkeye Movie Night. Moreover, we advertised this event through social media, morning announcements, and flyers around the school. The logistics, such as the venue, movie, and last-minute purchases, were swiftly handled by our Hawkeye advisors, Mrs. Barbitta and Mrs. Sanabria. This was truly a team effort all around, and we all are glad we were able to host this event for JPS students! We hope to see you at next year’s Hawkeye Movie Night as well!” Said Hawkeye business board member Rishika Negi (11).
Thanks to the Hawkeye Business Department, attendees were able to feast on food from restaurants like Applebees, IHOP, JadeGarden, LouCas, Curry Corner, and Mithaas. Weeks before the event, the Hawkeye Business team and respective associates spent hours calling up restaurants and vendors. Thankfully, the work was all worth it. The event had an abundance of food, which allowed people to take multiple rounds of food. The delicious food paired with the movie helped students relax after a long stressful week.
After the movie ended, the attendees were gifted candy canes and packets of hot chocolate adding more excitement to their night. The students were left feeling not only excited but also satisfied by both the heartwarming movie and the delicious food that was served. This event was a perfect way for students to start their weekend with a high note, and leave with great memories with friends.
“The dinner was so fun and this was my first year going and it was so nice to finally meet the people I work with and enjoy the food with my friends!” Said senior Hawkeye business member Namrata Anand.
Thanks to the hard work of the Hawkeye board members, the Hawkeye business associates, teachers, and staff, the Hawkeye movie night is a fun way for students to not only enjoy a good movie with friends but also serve as a way for students to support the Hawkeye newspaper.
