There are a few givens in our everyday life; the grass is green, school starts at 7:50, and Zach Chuck is leading the Edison Township Hockey Team to victory on the ice. As the face of the team’s offense and one of the team’s leaders, Captain and forward Zach Chuck hopes to power the team to a successful season full of triumph and collective growth.
Zach began his hockey career in fourth grade when his interest in the sport was piqued by attending a Philadelphia Flyers game. Since then, Zach has played competitive hockey for the Old Bridge Knights and Mercer Chiefs. His favorite hockey memory was his hat trick game against the Rockets, in which he secured a victory for his club team by recording three goals, including a game-tying goal in the last minute of regulation to force overtime, and a game winner to secure a tally in the win column. Zach is the captain of the Mercer Chiefs 18U, and for his efforts was crowned Week 7 18U Player of the Week by the Atlantic Hockey Federation in October 2024. This deft play has continued, leading to Zach being named an 18U Gretzky All Star for the Chiefs’ 2024 campaign. His superb play isn’t limited to club teams, however, with 21 career goals and 17 career assists with the Edison Township Tri-OP entering his Senior Season. To complement his diligent play and individual ability, Zach is also a team player who understands that it takes everyone to succeed as a team and for individuals to improve. As captain, he has led the team by motivating them and being a leader by example. He believes that “a key for the team’s success this year is continued exceptional success from our top goal scorers as well as younger players stepping up into skill and leadership positions,” which demonstrates his commitment to team improvement and his belief in complete team effort as the most successful way to achieve the common goal of victory. His assists totals are proof of this, with his unselfish play allowing the team to pick up wins, and for others to score goals.
Off of the ice, Zach enjoys working out at the gym, hanging out with friends, and playing others sports recreationally. He is also a lifeguard during the summer, helping finance his hockey gear. After high school, he hopes to attend college and continue his hockey career by playing for a club hockey team for his college of choice. His commitment to everything bigger than himself has rubbed off on teammates, who are encouraged by his actions to work harder and value the team more. Zach is a leader in everything he does, and his captaincy will continue to oversee massive successes for the entire team, in all skills tangible and intangible.
