Senior Chloe Chan, known for her dominating presence in the paint and her mid-range jumpers, is one of the best basketball players in the White Division and the Greater Middlesex County. Chloe aka “Chlomoney” is a star athlete for the Hawks. She helped the Hawks win the white division last season and is looking forward to another title this year.
Chloe began playing basketball after watching her neighbors play while waiting for her brother at the bus stop. From then on she has been hooked. Chloe has been on the Hawks varsity basketball team since her freshman year. In her junior year, she led the team in rebounding and blocks. Chloe was also selected to the Second Team All-White Division because of her outstanding performance on the court. Currently, she averages 9 rebounds a game and leads the team in both rebounds and assists.
Chloe’s teammates describe her as passionate and determined. According to them, she cares for each teammate and helps them through tough times. Chloe has always felt pride in being a Hawk and will deeply miss her time at JPS, stating “I will miss blasting music on the bus rides home after a win and going to practice with my friends.”
Head Coach of the Girls Basketball and Volleyball teams, Coach Weber remarked, “Chloe Chan is someone who I think is a great role model here at John P. Stevens. She is very caring and oftentimes goes above and beyond for her teammates and friends. It is an honor to say that I have been able to coach Chloe these past four years.”
Fellow senior basketball player, Jeslyn Victor agrees and stated “Chloe is very passionate about being a role model to her teammates. She gives her best effort every game as well as every practice. I am lucky to have a friend and a teammate like that through my basketball journey. “
Outside the captain of the basketball team, Chloe is the captain of the girls volleyball team and ran track her sophomore year. Aside from sports, Chloe is in Chamber orchestra, Key Club, Project Unified, and More than an Athlete. Outside of school, Chloe is a member of the Four Seasons string quartet. She enjoys watching “One Tree Hill” and “How I Met Your Mother” as well as drinking boba.
Throughout her time at JPS, Chloe Chan has attained countless achievements. After graduating, Chloe wants to pursue a degree in sports management, combining her passion for sports with her goal of supporting future athletes. Although her high school playing days are coming to an end, Chloe’s dedication and determination have made a lasting impact on the JPS community, for those both playing alongside her and those who have watched her grow.
