The JPS Cheer team has continued to compete at various competitions, perform a variety of stunts, and raise morale at football games. This all comes as a direct result of the dedication and commitment demonstrated by Coach Gabriella Pavese.
Coach Pavese serves as the Head Coach for the JPS cheer team. Prior to this role, however, Coach Pavese was a part of the team herself. She describes how she ”loved being a part of the cheer team” and “always looked forward to the fall football season.” In fact, this is the very reason she decided to become a cheer coach. With this position, Coach Pavese has the goal of keeping old traditions alive whilst simultaneously creating new ones. She discusses how one of her favorite aspects of coaching is being able to “teach the team cheers that got lost over the years that [she] used to do when [she] was in high school.” Her influence on the JPS cheer team extends past her own high school experience and now to the current cheerleaders of JP.
Other special memories of hers include watching the team perform at their Game Day Competition, teaching new stunts and seeing their excitement at their accomplishments, and the Youth Hawk Night program. The Youth Hawk Night program is when JPS Cheer invites kids between kindergarten and 8th grade to join the Hawks’ practice to learn several cheers and stunts as well as tumbling with the cheer team. Then, the kids join the team at a home Friday Night Football game to cheer with the Varsity team along the sidelines.
Coach Pavese further discussed how she was able to watch her cheerleaders change and grow throughout the season. She recounted how she was able to watch them “become better cheerleaders and better friends as the season goes on, and [she] loved that [she] got to be a part of it all.”
Coach Pavese’s dedication to and fondness of the JPS Cheer Team is evident. Her coaching has driven the team to success and much of this can be attributed to her commitment as Head Coach. Throughout her Cheer career, both being a JPS cheerleader as a student and now as Head Coach, Coach Pavese’s impact on the team is profound.
