The Hawks football team has seen massive improvements in their record and gameplay in the latest season. Led by captains Yasir Riddick, Marquise Webb, and Lamarr Raiford, the players followed a refined strategy in their games, and the results were prominent. This year, the Hawks welcomed the best football season they’ve seen in years.
The season opened with the streak-breaking win over Brook Bound. Quadir Johnson’s run caught the team up in the third quarter. Mariquise’s touchdown and run followed, sliding the Hawks to a 22-21 final score. Triumphantly, the Hawks walked away with their first win in 42 games. This hard-earned victory was not without ample preparation prior to the game. “What helped us win was practicing and preparing for them, watching films on them, and learning their offense,” Quadir recalled, “Our talk during halftime made us know we could go out and beat this team thanks to our coaching staff.” Following a similar method of preparation, the Hawks earned another victory in mid-October against Roselle Park.
Head Coach Jason George and the captains are beyond proud of the team’s improved approach in their matches. Reflecting on their progress, Yasir believes that their success was a result of “open communication, active listening, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.” Paired with strategic adjustments, emphasis on playing as a team paved the way for their success.
