This fall, the Lady Hawks Volleyball team is soaring through the season with a current record of 11 wins and 5 losses. The team is fighting for victory every step of the way. Each game is intense and action-packed. Their journey is nothing short of inspiring, filled with grit, determination, and an unbreakable team spirit. This season, the girls are led by Coach Weber, Coach Yun, a JPS alumni, and Coach Ratti. All three coaches have instilled the importance of working together as a team and bringing each other up. When attending the games, it is clear how close-knit and supportive the team members are. 

The girls started their season with a sweep against East Brunswick. Throughout the season, the Lady Hawks have faced ups and downs, but they always manage to finish strong. The girls also opposed very strong teams like Old Bridge, Monroe, and Woodbridge and pushed against the force together to take victories and losses. The girls beat Monroe, whom they haven’t beaten in the past 3 years, which is a record-breaking achievement. 

The three seniors: Chloe Chan, Alyssa Ye, and Sophia Wang are striving to lead this team to the GMC Championships. They administer leadership, being a role model, and creating a personal level connection with all the girls on the team to foster a safe environment on and off the court. The girls have honed their skills, perfecting every serve, pass, and swing. This dedication goes beyond the physical aspects of the game. It’s about mental toughness, teamwork, and the unwavering belief in each other’s abilities. 

Sophomore Aimee Han is leading the team in digs, accumulating 184 digs just halfway through the season. She has also served up 31 aces, and continues to be the backbone of the defensive aspect of the team. She is agile and has a quick reaction time, hustling for every ball while on the court. Furthermore, Sophia Wang, also known as “Wangstop” to her teammates and fans, leads the girls with a total of 96 kills, with Glady Diaz De la Rosa trailing behind with 92 kills from the middle position. Senior Alyssa Ye also leads the girls with a strong offensive side accumulating to 34 aces so far in the season. Glady Diaz De la Rosa and Chloe Chan are neck to neck with the amount of successful blocks they have set up this year. 

The Lady Hawks have been persevering from the pre-season, working hard 6 days a week to be the best athletes they can be. They still have a long way to go before GMC Championships and the State Tournament, but they are ready to take charge and dominate the court doing what they love.
