As the spring season starts, the girls lacrosse team is in full swing, showcasing their intense determination and consistent skills. The team has embarked on a journey filled with a strong passion for victory. With every game, these girls are not just playing a sport, but showcasing their unwavering dedication to excellence, and their sentiment towards the game.
These athletes continue to exhibit their sportsmanship along with growing talent. Junior Kamryn Bielinski, one of the three co-captains, voiced the importance of teamwork, saying, “It’s a team effort every single game, from the defense to the offense, and we wouldn’t be in the place we are right now without each and every one of us.”
Coach Ciarocca was recently given the position of Head Coach, working with Coach Ryan for this season. Along with this update to the coaching staff, the Lady Hawks added a Junior Varsity team, almost doubling the amount of girls participating compared to previous years. Led by their dedicated coaching staff, the team has been conditioning to improve their stickwork, agility, and stamina, as well as honing their strategies. Practices are intense and focused, with players consistently pushing themselves to be the best version of themselves.
With the addition of the Junior Varsity team, the girls now have the opportunity to mimic real game situations. This also provides various benefits like the ability to train the underclassmen before placing them in intense varsity leveled games.
“I would say that this year with the addition of our JV team we are very lucky” Coach Ciarocca asserted, “in practice we mimic a game setting and help the girls progress their skills…it also allows us to grow the program so that when these girls make it to Varsity they already have the fundamentals and they’re ready for the game.”
Off the field these athletes are not just players. They are students, friends and members of the community. They excel academically, and carefully balance their education with the demands of their sport. Additionally, most of them are involved in community service projects, constantly demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact beyond the game.
As the season progresses, the team’s confidence grows. The girls are consistently breaking records, as they have just surpassed the amount of wins from last season. Two senior athletes, Cassidy Gesualdo and Sriya Potturu have surpassed personal records. Cassidy has officially scored 100 goals, along with Sriya having over 300 saves.
“We bonded really well together this year,” Cassidy said “and were able to achieve more wins than last season and we’re not even done yet. The group has helped me to achieve my own hundredth point and I’m really proud of her whole team.”
Our JPS girls lacrosse team is a shining example of dedication, skill, and sportsmanship. These athletes are not only playing a game but embodying the true parts of competing, inspiring those around them. As they continue their season, on a quest for glory, there is no doubt they will leave a lasting legacy both on and off the field.
