On December 8, JP Stevens hosted its annual talent showcase, JPS Got Talent—a tradition organized by the student council and its advisor, Mr. Baer. The event brought students from every grade together, using the stage to display an immense amount of diversity and talent.
“To see different facets of our community come and work together is truly wonderful,” said Mr. Baer, who has effectively run the student council for 12 years. “I love working with the talents and giving them the guidance to enhance their performances so they can be the best they can be.”
Taking the spotlight this year was sophomore Aiman Shaik, whose dance earned him first place after he danced his heart away in a stunning performance.
“The very night that I was able to take home the title was one of the proudest moments of my life, both as a JPS student and a performer,” said Aiman, expressing his joy after the competition. “Winning JPS Got Talent felt like a dream, and it surprisingly took me two days to comprehend the fact that it happened.”
Dance seemed to be a common theme, with the third-place act by senior Andres Hernandez also showcasing an impressive performance. However, the night was not limited to dance, as a variety of talents were on display. Some standout performances included Abhisri Karthik Iyengar’s singing, a dynamic dance group featuring sophomores Dhwani Ghedia, Sreya Batchali, Tanisha Kurani, Neha Nair, and Prisha Mathur, as well as the duo Deborah Solomon and Shreya Patiri. Stormy Greene-Walker and Prithvi Manoj gave a unique fusion of dancing and violin.
“Even though I lost, I got to be part of something truly special. Overall, it was an experience that will stick with me for a while,” said freshman Mahesh Ramani who played the piano with great skill.
Beyond the competitive aspect, JPS Got Talent stands as a celebration of the diverse talents, unity, and creativity that define the spirit of JP Stevens. Each act contributed to an unforgettable night, leaving the audience in awe and reinforcing the vibrant community within our school.
