On October 27, the class of 2024 seniors woke up early to join their classmates on the football field, awaiting the sunrise. Senior Sunrise was originally scheduled for October 20; however, due to rain and inclement weather, the eagerly anticipated event had to be postponed. Seniors joined together with blankets and warm goodies on the fields in an attempt to find a perfect spot to watch the sunrise and catch up with friends and classmates. The Senior Sunrise was also a way for the seniors to fundraise for their upcoming prom in May.
At 6:30 a.m., seniors arrived on the turf, and were greeted by their class officers and class advisors, Ms. Ratti and Mr. Weber. Before seniors entered the field, they were served breakfast with options including bacon wraps, egg and cheese wraps, or bagels. As for a beverage, hot chocolate was provided.
“The sunrise was really beautiful,” said senior Sanskriti Nayak. “The experience with my friends and the Class of ‘24 was truly memorable.”
When students arrived, it was completely dark outside, which filled the seniors with an eager anticipation to witness the sunrise. Students lined up along the bleachers to get a better look at the sunrise and to capture Instagram-worthy ‘golden hour’ photos.
“Waking up early to watch the sunrise was so worth it because I got to witness such a memorable moment with my best friends,” said senior Maria George.
The Senior Sunrise marked a fantastic start to the class of 2024’s last year in high school. This Senior Sunrise was established as a yearly tradition in 2022, as the first event of the academic year. This event symbolizes the beginning of their final chapter in high school. Paired with this event, at the end of the school year, seniors will attend their senior sunset, which will serve as a poignant closure to their high school chapter.
“It was nostalgic in a way, sitting with everyone we’ve met over the years and getting to watch the sky brighten together. It was a special feeling,” said senior Laura Chen.
Senior Sunrise was a memorable event and a great way to kick off the 2023-2024 school year.
