On September 21, students gathered on the bleachers to watch the Fall Pep Rally and support their fellow peer student-athletes. Filled with music, optimism, and cheer, the pep rally is a great way for students to show support for their fellow classmates and for athletes to showcase the hard work they have put in throughout the season. It motivates students to attend additional games and come out to cheer on the sports department.
The event started with the captains of each respective sport introducing the various athletes and commending them for their accomplishments so far. Each athlete from the soccer, girls volleyball, football, golf, cheer, cross country, and girls tennis teams, was announced and ran towards their fellow teammates on the track, striking a humorous pose or high-fiving one another. The crowd was extremely excited and cheered on their classmates, showing their respect for every sports team. Senior, Srinidhi Rajaraman, on the varsity girl’s soccer team, exclaimed, “It was great to see the energy in the crowd and it was a great start to my last soccer season!”
There were also many opportunities for the students to showcase their talents. For example, the cheerleader routines displayed their school spirit and athletic sportsmanship, exciting the audience. The tennis team also engaged with the audience, hitting tennis balls into the crowd as everyone tried to catch one. Many who haven’t been able to attend games or see these athletes in action, finally got a chance to do so during the pep rally. Many commented that the energy was just amazing and it was great to see all of the school athletes show off their skills.
Finally, the renowned JPS marching band put on a performance based on the film Mary Poppins for the crowd. It was a great sneak peek into what would be further showcased at the annual band festival later in the month. The band members were able to show off their athleticism and musicality while playing in harmony and racing to get into their positions.
“This was one of the best themes of the marching band I’ve seen so far! They were truly amazing and I think all seniors will miss this after we leave” said senior Casey Decker.
Overall, the pep rally was filled with memorable moments. It was enjoyable for the audience as they got to spend time with their friends, showing support for their fellow athletes and for the participants as well. It allowed many athletes to be recognized for their achievements and as a crucial part of their respective teams. It also helped others realize how hard these athletes must work to see winning results. The pep rally was a successful event, allowing students to become acquainted with the athletic aspect of school and produce more school spirit.
