Senior Mihir Patel started playing competitive baseball fourteen years ago when he was four years old. He was first introduced to baseball through his older brother, who held the same passion for the sport. To improve his understanding of baseball, Mihir joined the Diamond Jacks club team from Flemington to learn basic skills with the assistance of his coach and teammates. Recently, Mihir moved to the Baseball Warehouse, a top baseball club in North Brunswick, and has an earned run average (ERA) of 1.9 as a pitcher for them. He focuses on “mechanics-based pitching drills” during his individual practice sessions to improve his performance on the field and lifts at least four days a week at the gym to improve his strength. Mihir puts all this training towards his high school baseball career, during which he has been batting for the JP Stevens varsity baseball team for the past three years. During this time, he has had a career total of 188 bats, 25 runs, and 58 hits. Last year, Mihir’s season was cut short after an injury to his shoulder. Thankfully, his shoulder has continued to improve since then and his goal for his senior season is to maintain a high batting average and hit more home runs. Mihir recalls his favorite moment of high school baseball as their team’s Florida trip where he enjoyed bonding with his teammates and spending some time with them. As his high school baseball career comes to an end this year, Mihir ensures to make each game count and cherish the moments he has with his teammates. He will be leaving the JP Stevens baseball program to continue his athletic and educational career at Emory University in Georgia.
