JP’s Favorite Fits
February 16, 2023
You wake up in the morning and brush your teeth, preparing yourself for a new day. You’re not entirely ready, though—you still need to pick out your outfit! You head to your closet and analyze the clothing inside. This daily conundrum is more serious than it seems: as an esteemed student of JP, you must fit into the current JP fashion trends. But what outfits are being worn by the majority of the JP population?
We’ll start with a common outfit choice here at JP: flannel pajamas. One cannot walk through the halls of JP without catching sight of students decked out in these soft fabrics, particularly the red variety that everyone somehow seems to possess. It’s safe to say that students love them—and for good reason. They’re perfect for the winter weather blues that make students want to sleep in. I’m certain many students bemoan the fact that they cannot bring their beds to school—because the beds wouldn’t fit through the door—and wish they could feel the warmth and comfort of their blankets even during school. Well, when you can’t bring your four-poster bed to class, your cozy flannel pajamas are a safe alternative. Who needs pillows?
Another iconic JP outfit is the ugly winter sweater, a staple of the chilly holiday season. As soon as winter begins, every single member of JP pulls out their giant collection of sweaters and wears them for the rest of the season. The appeal is obvious: these sweaters, whether they’re covered in intricate snowflake designs or taken directly from your grandfather’s closet, are adorable celebrations of the holidays. And there’s nothing like wearing holiday sweaters way past the end of the holiday season to delude yourself into believing that it’s still winter break. The winter season is soon coming to a close, so wear all of your winter sweaters before spring hits and the adorable snowmen embroidered on your sweater melt away.
The third, and perhaps most popular, of these JP outfits is college apparel. Every JP student wears college apparel—whether they’re a freshman supporting their dream school, a senior manifesting an acceptance letter, or a random student who didn’t know what the “MIT” on the shirt meant but figured the logo underneath looked cool. What’s great about college apparel is that it comes in all clothing types: sweatshirts, normal shirts, hoodies, polos, and even masks. A student’s entire outfit—top, bottom, shoes, mask, hair tie—can be composed entirely of college apparel, although such a coordinated outfit may be pushing it. Perhaps a college hoodie can be your outfit for today. After all, why wear merch for the school you currently go to when you can wear the logo of a random college five hundred miles away!
Still, it’s possible, given all of these amazing choices, that you are still unsure about what to wear. You simply cannot decide if you should actually wear your flannel pajamas or which college apparel to wear. In that case, my advice is simple: wear what you please. While I’ve listed the most common outfit choices I see at JP currently, ultimately most students wear what they want—for comfort or otherwise. If the biggest fashion trend at JP is students wearing whatever they feel like wearing, then perhaps you should also do the same.
